A Visit to Anchorage

“It was dark now and broodingly sluggish. Like something supine waiting to spring, with just the tip of its tail twitching.”

– Cornell Woolrich, Angels of Darkness 1978

I have been visiting Anchorage, Alaska for a week now.  I don’t know if I have seen too many horror movies set in Alaska, or if it is just the rain and and the post summer opening hours, but the atmosphere here is a strange one.  I can’t quite put my finger on it, but it feels like a place in between; a place where something off is about to happen. It feels…precarious.

Despite the ominous mood, which is no doubt a figment, or manifestation of some personal  neurosis (either that or the presage of Halloween…haha), I have been having a great time.  The restaurants here are truly excellent, and I have been enjoying quality time with my hubby, even though we are both working! I still have the weekend to go. Looking forward to seeing a little more of the area.

Place I can recommend for food and/or cocktails:

Snow City Cafe

The Rustic Goat

The Fat Ptarmigan

The Glacier Brewhouse

The Captain Cook Hotel:  Fletcher’s, The Crow’s Nest

Simon and Seafort’s

Club Paris
