The Metropolitan Opera Live inHD

Someone recently told me about the The Met Live in HD and after my disappointment with the Opera in Denver it has really impressed me. Essentially the Met broadcasts several of its annual productions to movie theaters around the country in HD live. I went to see the encore of Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra last month and at the end of the month I am going to see Hamlet. It was a really good experience. Renee Fleming introduces the opera on screen and she interviews the singers between Acts. Also as an audience in the movie theater you get to see behind the scenes between Acts and watch them changing scenery in the intermissions. It was fantastic.

This particular production has Placido Domingo singing the title role of Simon Boccanegra. He was brilliant. Usually Domingo is a Tenor but this was his first performance in a baritone lead. I thought he did a marvelous job. The best thing about the Met Live in HD is that I can go on my own and not have to subject the hubby to something he doesn’t enjoy. I can’t wait to see Hamlet.
